Campaign Description
Welcome to Isekai'd&d, a unique Dungeons & Dragons campaign where the boundaries between reality and fantasy blur, and the players will be the heroes of their own story!
In Isekai'd&d, you won’t just be playing characters – you’ll be playing as yourselves. One fateful night, while playing a typical Questbook D&D session, an inexplicable event occurs. There's a blinding flash of light and you find yourselves transported into a strangely familiar fantasy world...
You will quickly realize that the rules of this world are governed by the same mechanics you've spent years mastering in D&D games. You might find your body warped into a strange alien-feeling race, and perhaps you’ll feel the tingle of magic down your spine or realise a higher calling as a divine voice speaks to you. Maybe you’ll learn how to swing a sword, or vanish into the shadows. Using these cool abilities, magical powers, and medieval equipment, you will navigate through enchanted forests, treacherous dungeons, and ancient ruins as you transition between familiar fantasy worlds from TV, Films, and TTRPGS while you struggle to find your way back home to Earth.
Along the way, you will encounter powerful allies, formidable foes, and complex mysteries that will test your wits and courage. Each world you travel through holds its own secrets, and only by solving the puzzles and overcoming the challenges will you find the way home.
In Isekai'd&d, your knowledge of the game will be both your greatest asset and your greatest challenge. Familiar rules will come with unfamiliar twists, and your understanding of how fantasy worlds work will be crucial. Teamwork, strategy, and quick thinking will be essential as you struggle to return to your maybe less exciting, but definitely less deadly lives.
Prepare yourselves for an adventure unlike any other, where the line between player and character fades, and every decision can mean the difference between success and failure.
Game Expectations
This campaign is open to anyone regardless of your level of experience with D&D 5e. Games will be on either Tuesday or Wednesday evenings (depending on what the players decide) and will be played online. If everyone happens to be from Auckland and someone has a play space I’m happy to make it an in-person game (which is heaps better), but I don’t personally have an available play space to offer so the default will be online using Discord and Roll20.
There won’t be a typical "session zero" for this campaign, as we will be jumping right into the action in media res, as it were. However, at the start of the first session we will discuss the tone and themes of the campaign, as well as any sensitive topics that may arise during gameplay, to ensure that everyone feels comfortable and safe at the table. By taking the time to discuss expectations and establish boundaries in the form of lines and veils, we hope to create a welcoming and inclusive gaming group.
Storyteller - Brian
I've been a role-player and DM/GM for more than 35 years, from the original magenta basic D&D boxed set in the early 80's through every edition since (I may have skipped 4e, but then so did most other people...) and a ton of other RPGs along the way. I have had roleplaying articles published by Pinnacle Entertainment, wrote and published all the supplements for The Riddle of Steel, and am currently publishing my own SciFi Space Opera called Sapience which features intelligent animals struggling against oppression by the humans who uplifted them.
I favour "open world" games where you as the players and I as the GM craft our own unique story together. Whatever kind of adventure you're interested in, in almost any system, let's make it happen!
GAMES
Sapience - Be one of the first people in the world (other than the playtesters) to play a campaign of Sapience with its designer! Explore a whole sector of space in a starship crew style space opera (think Firefly, Han and Chewie, The Expanse) where you can play an intelligent Ape, Octopus or Android, and explore what it means to be intelligent but discriminated against by the humans who uplifted your species!
Dungeons & Dragons - I've GMed many D&D campaigns over the years, and can run a 5e adventure in pretty much any setting you like. I'm especially fond of Dark Sun and Ravenloft.
Vampire - A game of personal horror and self discovery. Find out what it means to miss the sun and thirst for those who fear you.
Deadlands - Cowpokes and hucksters in a "Weird West" setting with steampunk and soul magic.
Amber - A dice-less game of multiversal domination where you can quite literally own entire universes.
Delta Green (Call of Cthulhu) - Play a one-shot or a whole campaign in the modern day where you'll uncover government conspiracies, face eldritch horrors, and navigate the thin line between sanity and the unknown. Are you prepared for the secrets that lurk in the shadows?
