Campaign Description

If you’re into D&D, GrimWild will feel familiar straight away. It's got the same classes as D&D, same adventures, and the same "you never know what'll happen" feeling. The difference is that the rules are lighter, the game moves faster, and you get way more control over where the story goes. Less time flicking through rulebooks, more time actually playing.

The fun bit is how much the players get to shape things. It’s not just me throwing stuff at you, you can introduce story elements, steer events, change the world on the fly. If you decide the ancient temple has a hidden vault under it, or that an old enemy shows up at the worst possible time, that’s on the table. It’s all about bouncing ideas around and running with whatever makes the game more fun and interesting. You even get rewarded for introducing "tangles", story elements that may negatively impact you.

And in the first session we’ll build the world together. You and the other players decide what kind of place it is using a narrative tool called Microscope which helps put together a shared world with history and current events. You'll decide together what tone the campaign will have and what’s at stake. Maybe it’s dark and dangerous. Maybe it’s hopeful and weird. Floating islands? A plague of dropbears? Courier pigeon druid clans who constantly war with each other? Whatever you guys come up with it’s your world from session one which makes it heaps easier to get invested in what happens to it.

It'll be a cool collaborative and narrative kind of game where “remember when…” stories pretty much write themselves.

GrimWild’s got all the heart of D&D but with more space to try weird and fun ideas and see what sticks. If you’re into big adventures and worlds you actually care about because you helped make them, you’re going to love it.

Game Expectations

AUCKLAND

I've been a role-player and DM/GM for more than 35 years, from the original magenta basic D&D boxed set in the early 80's through every edition since (I may have skipped 4e, but then so did most other people...) and a ton of other RPGs along the way. I have had roleplaying articles published by Pinnacle Entertainment, wrote and published all the supplements for The Riddle of Steel, and am currently publishing my own SciFi Space Opera called Sapience which features intelligent animals struggling against oppression by the humans who uplifted them.

I favour "open world" games where you as the players and I as the GM craft our own unique story together. Whatever kind of adventure you're interested in, in almost any system, let's make it happen!

GAMES

Sapience - Be one of the first people in the world (other than the playtesters) to play a campaign of Sapience with its designer! Explore a whole sector of space in a starship crew style space opera (think Firefly, Han and Chewie, The Expanse) where you can play an intelligent Ape, Octopus or Android, and explore what it means to be intelligent but discriminated against by the humans who uplifted your species!

Dungeons & Dragons - I've GMed many D&D campaigns over the years, and can run a 5e adventure in pretty much any setting you like. I'm especially fond of Dark Sun and Ravenloft.

Vampire - A game of personal horror and self discovery. Find out what it means to miss the sun and thirst for those who fear you.

Deadlands - Cowpokes and hucksters in a "Weird West" setting with steampunk and soul magic.

Amber - A dice-less game of multiversal domination where you can quite literally own entire universes.

Delta Green (Call of Cthulhu) - Play a one-shot or a whole campaign in the modern day where you'll uncover government conspiracies, face eldritch horrors, and navigate the thin line between sanity and the unknown. Are you prepared for the secrets that lurk in the shadows?
